Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced the postponement of his anticipated trip to India, citing pressing obligations within his company. Musk, renowned for his leadership roles at Tesla and SpaceX, had originally planned a two-day visit to the country, during which he aimed to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and unveil investment prospects for his ventures.
In a statement released earlier today, Musk expressed regret over the delay, attributing it to the demanding responsibilities he faces at Tesla. "Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year," remarked the tech mogul.
Speculation had been rife about Musk's visit, especially after his recent declaration of eagerness to engage with Prime Minister Modi. Reports initially suggested a potential arrival date of April 21. Musk's previous encounter with Modi in the United States last June had ended with assurances of Tesla's forthcoming entry into the Indian market, promising to do so "as soon as humanly possible."
During his planned visit, Musk had intended to unveil investment plans estimated at $2-3 billion for India, signaling significant advancements for both Tesla and Starlink, his satellite internet enterprise. With Tesla seeking new avenues amid sluggish sales in the US and China, India emerged as a promising prospect, particularly following governmental tax reductions on imported vehicles for companies investing locally.
Moreover, Starlink, under Musk's stewardship, stands poised to obtain preliminary approvals for its operations in India, according to reports from the AFP news agency. Preceding this development, the government had introduced amendments to its foreign direct investment policy in the space sector, aiming to facilitate easier entry for international investors into Indian enterprises.
